San Carlos, San Diego

San Carlos, San Diego (not to be confused with the other San Carlos near San Francisco) was named after the subdivision developer, Carlos Tavares. San Carlos is a San Diego neighborhood mainly consisting of single-family Ranch-style homes that were built in the 1970s. 


San Carlos, San Diego is about 10 miles East from downtown San Diego. Most San Diego locals refer to San Carlos as “East County.” One hundred years ago, San Carlos was primarily ranch land.

With large open spaces and a rural feel, San Carlos, San Diego has plenty of memorable attractions for nature lovers. Cowles Mountain is the highest point of the city of San Diego (1,593-foot summit) and offers visitors a stunning view of Coronado Islands.


Kid-friendly Lake Murray in San Carlos is perfect for biking or a picnic. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the artificial turf soccer fields, running track, basketball and tennis courts at Pershing Middle School, all of which are available for public use after school hours.
